Chili peppers, also spelled chile or chilli, are varieties of berry-fruit plants from the genus Capsicum, which are members of the nightshade family Solanaceae, cultivated for their pungency. Chili peppers are widely used in many cuisines as a spice to add "heat" to dishes.Red chillies are hollow, and the pith and seeds are the hottest part. Many red chillies are milder than green chillies, although there are hundreds of varieties. Chilli heat is related to capsaicin content and measured in Scoville units.
Chilli is a fruit which belongs to Capsicum genus. It has many varieties which are differentiated on its pungency measured on Scoville Scale. Chilli fruit when ripened and dried becomes red chilli, which is further grounded to form red chilli powder. These are categorized as hot pepper. Red chilli became famous all around the world because of its characteristics like pungency, taste and flavor matched black pepper, which was very expensive during old times and thus it became one of the most important and integral spices.
Chilli crop grows well in deep loamy fertile soil with appropriate moisture content. Best time for sowing chilies is between April and June, i.e. in hot and humid weather. But dry weather is required at the time of harvesting. Major chilli growing countries are India, China, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Mexico, Vietnam, Peru, Pakistan, Ghana, and Bangladesh. These countries produce approximately 85% of the total red chilli in the world.
The red chilli pepper is the fruit of the capsicum plant, a member of the so-called "nightshade family," which also includes bell peppers and eggplant. There are five primary species of chilli plants and well over 300 distinct subspecies, all of which range in size, shape, colour, flavour, and level of spiciness, according to "The Spice Bible." The most popular dried chilli pepper kinds include ancho, bird's eye, cascabel, chipotle, habanero, mulato, new mexico, pasilla, common (a broad phrase sometimes used to describe the 2.5-inch dry, long red chilies). Despite the differences, they are all descended from the same South American native chilli.
Indians cherish the distinct aroma of red chilli and the irresistible allure of spice powder. Lal mirchi, or red chilli, is one quintessential spice that graces every Indian household, infusing each dish with a delectable and fiery punch. It is an essential element in our culinary repertoire, often used in powdered form.
The additional dash of Red chilli seasoning in our cuisine is a treat for those who relish spicy food. Red chilies come in myriad varieties, boasting diverse flavours, and are readily available throughout the country. They are frequently employed as a garnish and find their way into different spice blends, sauces, and condiments.
