How to Cook Toor Dal

To cook toor dal, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup toor dal
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions:

  1. Wash the toor dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the water and add the toor dal to a pressure cooker.
  3. Add the water, salt, turmeric powder, and red chili powder.
  4. Close the pressure cooker and cook the dal on medium heat for 15 minutes.
  5. Once the pressure has been released, open the pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida.
  6. Heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida.
  7. Once the seeds have spluttered, add the tadka to the dal.
  8. Serve the dal hot with rice or roti.
