Phosphorus is needed by plants in relatively large amounts; this is why it is classified as a primary plant nutrient. It plays a key role in photosynthesis, carbon metabolism and nitrogen fixation. It is also a key component of nucleic acids-DNA and RNA. As a natural and potent source of phosphorus and calcium, phosphate rock is widely used in organic agriculture. Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI), USA listed phosphate rock in certified organic farming, agriculture, gardening and food production as per USDA National Organic Program Regulations.
