Batasa, or sugar or Jaggary drop, is very common and widely used on a pan-India basis as parsadam for daily pujas and prayers. In Bengal, it is also used for the said purposes, but in rural Bengal, it is customarily served with a glass of water for all visitors at home. But for daily pujas or for main pujas like Lakshmi puja, Saraswati puja, and other pujas, batasa is offered as one of the items in every Bengali household. There are two types : the yellow variety made from Jaggary and the white variety made from sugar.
